Few things are scarier than having a tire blowout when you’re driving down the road from home. In certain circumstances, a tire blowout can even cause an accident. Here are some ways to avoid a blowout.
- Monitor the tire’s air pressure at least once a month. It can be as dangerous to have tires over-inflated as it is to have under-inflated tires.
- Inspect your tires regularly. If you see any signs of excessive wear, bubbles, or other deformities, replace them.
- If possible, avoid road hazards. Road hazards can damage your tires.
- Overloading your vehicle because this can also cause damage to the tires. Stay within the limits set by your vehicle’s manufacturer.
If you do happen to have a blowout, it’s important to know what to do. Do not hit the brakes. Hold the steering tight keeping the vehicle going straight. Release the gas and slow down gradually.
